A brief personal note for you today, dear reader. (Our regular, capital “N” Notes will resume tomorrow)...
Your fellow readers have been keen to know...
“Are you still writing for BPR?”
“We haven’t seen your posts there lately.”
“What’s going on with the Sunday Sesh?”
Apologies for the late response...and thanks for your patience!
As many of you already know, for the past few months, I’ve been intensely focused on covering, here in these Notes, a movement I’ve been calling “The Greatest Political Experiment of Our Time.”
And lo!
What began as a curious intrigue down here in Argentina, with the election of Sr. Javier Milei, the world’s first “anarcho-capitalist” president, has since blossomed around the world, with liberty movements gaining traction across Europe, Australia, the UK, Canada and the United States...
It’s been quite the story, to say the least! And one which, if I’m right, is only just getting started…
When I started this publication, I had only a few readers (thanks, dad!) But even in a few short months, what began as a sort of side project, an avocation, has grown to demand my full time attention.
Today, these humble Notes are read in all fifty states across America, as well as in 129 countries around the world...
After debuting down in the triple-digits on the Substack leaderboard, Notes has rapidly grown to the point where it’s now in the Top 30 publications under World Politics, a category dominated by veteran journalists, celebrated historians and best-selling authors...all of whom are sleeping with one eye open, no doubt. (I’m coming for you, Chris Hedges!)
Needless to say, it was with a pang of sadness when, a few weeks back, I told my friend, Bill Bonner, that I would be unable to keep up my duties at BPR and would, therefore, be handing in my notice.
Bill and I have written together, on and off, for the past twenty years. I’ve learned a great deal from him during that time, for which I expressed my gratitude. As an entrepreneur himself, one who has spent most of his life building his own publishing companies, Bill was characteristically supportive and gracious when we spoke.
Genuine affections notwithstanding, a man must be the cause of his own effects in this world… not the effects of someone else’s cause.
Now is that time, dear reader. And this is my cause. I’m flying solo on Notes, and looking forward to every minute of the adventure to come.
So where does that leave you, dear reader, to whom I address these heartfelt missives? With an open invitation, of course!
If you were one of my Sunday Sesh readers, who helped make that column a weekly favorite over at BPR, you can look forward to your regular Sesh right here, each and every weekend.
You’ll also receive twice-weekly Notes mailings directly to your inbox (Tuesdays and Thursdays… planes, trains and automobiles permitting). Plus you can expect podcast interviews, special live events and plenty more to come as I work to build these Notes into the Substack-crushing, world politics behemoth we both know they can be.
Oh, and best of all, you’re welcome (nay, encouraged!) to share these Notes with friend and foe alike, a common reader request I was previously unable able to oblige. So when we do eventually stand atop the great Substack stack, it will be in no small part thanks to you and the community we build here together.
As a fully independent, reader-supported publication, I hope you can join this small but growing readership of free thinkers, critical minds and cheerful skeptics.
As our tagline suggests, we’re into free markets, free minds and free people… and we hope you are too.
Pledge your support by becoming a member today and look out for your next Notes From the End of the World, tomorrow...
Cheers,
Joel Bowman
