Hard to fathom how any living, somewhat mentally stable human can watch/listen/read any of the main stream propaganda outlets. (They do not deserve the moniker of "media"). I would suspect that if we could stop big pharma from advertising, those lost dollars would be the kill shot.
Though whenever I see graphs like that showing 31% of Americans still have a "Great deal/Fair amount" of trust in Mass Media, I wonder what delusional fantasy land are these people living in?
Or is that the same people benefiting from the lies?
I assume that 31% is probably equally divided between core R's & D's. Maybe we should hire a matchmaker to bring Hannity and Maddow together. A total mismatch, of course, but if married, would perhaps take their differences offline (if not to the bedroom), to the relief of most of us.
Never fully impoverished, although a serially terrible investor, as were several of that era such as U.S. Grant (a friend of his to whom he loaned money and coaxed out Grants own autobiography) and later, Winston Churchill.
"Twain's" estate in West Redding, Ct. His three-volume autobiography first made available in 2010, fully one hundred years after his death in accordance to his Will, has this story and several other lesser known yet equally fascinating accounts of a truly fascinating guy.

as the sun is far from the west as it is from the east, so lies the center piece of another mainstream media crap can filled with clueless interpretation and observation.
Alas, senor Joel manages to reintroduce the historical comparisons rather specifically i’d say. i’m rather thankful CNN wasn’t around at the start of last century. We’d be reading another story about how China’s peaceable century led to the prevention of world war three.
You are uniquely you, Joel, but has anyone ever told you that there are large hints of Bill Bonner in your writing? For example, "... we are here to tighten the noose and wobble the chair". So very Bonner. And you think alike.
I'l take that as a compliment, dear reader... and will forward to my friend, Bill, along with the message, "I'm sure I am indebted to you for more than this, but here's for a start. Thanks!"
Joel, I'm curious as to specifically why this Walter Masterson person is cast as "an all-around useful idiot"? I've never heard of him before. I assume that he's protesting Mandavi. OK, I'm not a "sidewalk sandwich-board guy" myself, but what of it?
I see that screwball kid lobbing the bomb as a Mandavi supporter seeking to kill off Walter and his friends, the only ones exposed, for being anti-Islamist.
G'day Ed - Thanks for writing. In this case, Mr. Masterson was welcoming all and sundry to NYC, including the young fellow who tossed a bomb over his head. He was protesting the protestors. He was not the target of the bomb, in other words... he was the Quisling who opened the gate.
Thanks for the response Joel. For the life of me (literally), this ol’ worlds getting stranger by the moment. Hopefully, you’re not dealing with these violent hate inspired actors on the streets of Buenos Aires Certainly your walkabout” videos throughout the city seem peaceful & inviting. Living, as I do, only about an hours drive out of NYC, and well into the countryside. To me, NYC these days is a very dark and dystopian place to even try to live. “Head on a swivel” if you ever do land there… A lot to see.. sometimes, too much.
Who finances CNN? I guess we will have to wait and see what David Ellison will do with this disgraced brand. I often wonder why uber rich people want to own mass media. Don't you?

Totally agree with you.

Those 31% are called democrats 🤔

CNN’s retraction reaction would be hilarious if not so pitiful and obnoxious.
Joel,
Your writing and thoughts are important, as your wife's Anya's are. Thank goodness for that in this depressing world. What to do?
eat, drink and be merry :-)
It’s a race to extinction between CNN and whatever MSN Is calling itself these days.
My money is on CNN since I think MSwhatever has the bigger bank account.
Given the pittance of a viewing audience they enjoy, the eventual failure of both is not the life jacket for which the majors are hoping.
I think we should start two pools.
1. Who sinks first, CNN or MSwhatever?
2. Which of the “majors” ownership will go Fox marketshare hunting?
I would ask Zohran I Madman what is the connection between white supremacy and Muslim hatred. But I don't think he would understand.
Note to the last decent person to leave the city, don't forget to grab the flag and turn out the lights.

Mark Twain was an American phenomenon. He always knew he would strike it rich in some hair brain scheme and impoverished himself and his rich wife.

He was one of a kind.

Also remember the WSJ editorial from years ago-"If all the economists were laid end to end, you would never reach a conclusion!" Walter Oakes
Love that one!
Yes, he was. A man ahead of his time.

That is so much a compliment, Joel. I've been reading Bonner for over 30 years and love his style, mind too. It's good to have two of you.

What am I missing?
