Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one.

Joel Bowman with today’s Note From the End of the World: Buenos Aires, Argentina…
Albert Einstein, Hillary Clinton and Robert Duvall walk into a bar at the End of the World.
But for the stubborn impediment of chronological time, this scenario was (is?) quite possible, as all three 20th century personalities visited the “bar notable” known as Café Tortoni, right here in Buenos Aires, during their earthly wanderings.
Thankfully (for the actor and the physicist), chronological time saved them from a most unfortunate chance luncheon… a hypothetical horror story for another time.
As you can see from the amateur clip above (taken at the legendary locale by your over-caffeinated editor earlier in the week), Argentina once enjoyed the kind of rich café culture ordinarily associated with the wealthy European capitals of Trieste, Vienna, Paris.

Then came Peronism… socialism… statism… and the consequent market meltdown, economic chaos and political catastrophe that endured for three-quarters of a century, give or take.
And yet, there may be cause for tempered optimism. Early indications point to something of an Argentine resurgence. President Javier Milei said as much this week, when he boldly declared:
“Argentina is entering its best moment of the last 100 years.”
What’s got el presidente so sanguine, you wonder? From El País (translated):
Milei’s euphoria is based on economic figures that put a smile on his face, such as the decrease in country risk and the rate of inflation, the incipient economic recovery and the increase in central bank reserves. Argentina has regained the attention of international financial markets and local bonds have risen by an average of 16% this month.
Here’s the country’s “risk profile,” a metric closely followed by international investors looking to deploy capital on foreign shores.
And here’s the local stock index, the S&P Merval over the same period, presenting something of a mirror reflection:
It’s still early days, of course, and there are a million things that can derail the progress (Hillary might drop in for lunch!) But in a world drenched in negative headlines, fake news and impending armageddon, hope can be a powerful thing.
We’ll continue to monitor the story as it unfolds, from the frontline cafés down here at the End of the World.
Meanwhile, this week we covered the long overdue death of the mainstream media… and the impending threat of nuclear annihilation at the hands of Deep State psychopaths. Read on below for more…
