Thank you. I don’t often mix music and reading, it diffuses my concentration, providing detours and distractions. Today I am listening to Coltrane’s “Blue Train” when your Notes hit my iPad. It’s the perfect accompaniment to today’s subject. It reminded me - ah that’s another thought for another time - I enjoyed the ride.

A fun read, although I was confused whether the book being read on your car was The Stranger or The Plague. Oh well -- either one works.

Beware holding the bars in public conveyances. I was in the Rome subway last summer when two guys bracketed me -- on in front and one to my right side, both facing me. The guy to my right had his hands at his side, the guy in front had his hands on the vertical bars to each side so I had to hold those bars higher up. With my hands thus raised, I barely felt the guy to my right unzipping my money belt. But I did feel it, and did stop him. Not violently, as I wanted to, as I feared he might have a knife and a grudge. He jumped off at the next stop without anything from my belt, but there's a sense of violation there, of impinging on one's private space. I knew there was something wrong about a guy facing me with his hands right where I would normally put mine, but did not connect the two as a team. Poor situational awareness on my part.
