And that’s in a very touristy area (right outside the Recoleta Cemetery). A very serviceable bottle of wine will set you back the princely sum of around half that amount...
Agreed as to the powers that be; he certainly has his work cut out. From what we hear on the ground, the outgoing Peronistas are already planting plenty of (metaphorical) bombs throughout the casa rosada for him. The battle is only just beginning…
Thanks for sharing. And yes, the air of cautious optimism cuts across demographics. Young and old, working class and poor, intellectual and salt of the earth alike.
You write in just a few paragraphs what the essential choices are for humanity. Having intellectually accepting the libertarian philosophy some 53 years ago (when 19) I was awash with happiness at Milei's election. As you pointed out the counter-revolutionary forces, are mounting their horses already, and with such a small Libertad Avanza group in the legislature, and the desires of a class of dependencies on the state, his challenge awaits. Hope springs eternal:)
Love the firsthand reporting, loved the stroll in the park. Saw the Milei interview with Tucker Carlson. I was impressed, answers precise and intelligent; had to overcome the hair and wild eyes. He did get everyone’s attention and won.
I especially liked his attitude about the fight against socialism.
Socialism appeals to the worst traits in human nature, corrupts people’s motivation by offering an illusion of the yellow brick road.
I would suspect all the parasites will “Cry”.
Keep up the good posts.
The question, how do you prepare? Tolstoy became spiritual. America was a good training ground before it changed. It would take a miracle to change to course of present depravity. I believe in miracles. But, I also have learned to “hoe my own garden.” Perhaps those doing the same, the salt and the yeast, can create the miracle.

i would be jumping out of my shoes if i wore them more often. with the giddiness that goes along with my preferred sandals, the air of optimism must surely be hard to contain. you cannot live without sunlight forever. Give them as much hope as they can handle! what a happy day for the whole world. ‘for the greatest of these is love’ said jesus. i say embrace it.
"Adroit readers will notice Thoreau’s dangling qualifier… “when men are prepared for it.”"
Actually, I never got “That government is best which governs not at all;" as an improvement over a government that governs least and for which men are not prepared for either.
Even though the simpliest solution is the choice between Freedom and Authoritarianisms it is beyond our grasp of why both are truly entertwined in our daily lives. It's not a Gordian Knot but a Celtic Knot that's become entangled and that needs to be untangled revealing simplicity not simple.
My Spanish isnt great...Around $15 for a bbq for 2 to 3 people at blue market rates?

The entrenched powers will not surrender readily, and they are totally corrupt. I wish Milei well, but I fear for what he is about to face.

We were living in BA during the Menem dollar peg roller coaster and indeed friends and family there are curiously optimistic about ‘El loco’

We may well need a miracle!
I am rooting for Mr. Milei. Will be an interesting story to follow to say the least.
Indeed! Watch this space…
Fascinating! So much potential!
Exciting to be frontlines! One can feel the excitement in the air...

Thoughts and prayers, Joel.
Instructive that fluid (and buoyant) prices must be written on chalkboards rather than printed on paper.
Indeed... no wonder they were so slow to do away with the QR menus elsewhere.

Transfixed by Tango couple.
That dance is as close to copulation as anything a public walkway can offer. Save me a seat on the next plane out.
