“I am interested in politics so that one day I will not have to be interested in politics.”
~ Ayn Rand
Joel Bowman, with today’s Note From the End of the World…
Welcome to the front row of the Greatest Political Experiment of Our Time. (OK, that’s an exaggeration… we were fifth row.)
As dear readers well know, we’ve been following the freedom revolution from our far-flung outpost down here at the End of the World where, a few short months have passed since the long-suffering people of Argentina decided “enough was enough” and elected to office the world’s first libertarian president.
Since then, Javier Milei, a self-described “philosophical anarchist,” has taken the message of liberty around the world. Videos of his speeches from here in Argentina, over in Europe and up in the United States have gone viral, making him one of the most recognized faces in the world. (His interview with Tucker Carlson was viewed more than Tucker’s fireside chat with Mr. Trump.)
And lo, it turns out, you don’t have to go all the way to Davos, Switzerland, and rub shoulders with Klaus Schwabstika and his irksome minions to catch a glimpse of Atlas Shrugging…
Liberty, Then and Now
This weekend, we attended AynRandCon 2024 here in Buenos Aires where, a few weeks ago, it was quietly announced that Javier Milei would be making an appearance as guest speaker. With barely ~200 people in attendance, we were able to secure seats front and center for the intimate, 90 minute discussion.
The conversation, hosted by Maria Marty, president of the Ayn Rand Center for Latin America, was full of insights and quotable Milei moments… which we’ll have for you in this coming week’s Notes (stay tuned)...
In the meantime (while we get back to the conference), please enjoy our posts from the week gone… including a look at how our better angels in the mainstream press conveniently sideline dissenting voices (ahem, Julian Assange) in their pursuit of “selective truth,” plus some ancient words of wisdom from Lao-Tzu, one of the world’s first known libertarian thinkers and philosophers…
Finally today, your incurably peripatetic correspondent will be hitting the road again soon, with a journey to another End of the World on the books for later this month. That is, we’re heading back to our birth country of Australia in late April for the first time since the pandemic. It will be interesting to see if/how the place has changed since we were last “home,” six years ago…
If you’re a Notes Member and find yourself in Melbourne late April, or on the Gold Coast during May, direct message us and perhaps we’ll be able to grab a flat white… or a glass of shiraz… together along the way.
Cheers,
Joel Bowman
P.S. Speaking of our dear Notes Members, we’re ever grateful for your generous support. As mentioned above, Notes is an entirely independent, reader-supported publication (as in, we accept no advertising and bow to no boss).
So if you’re enjoying our work, and would like to help support the project, please consider joining our small but growing community of free-thinkers, deep readers and cheerful skeptics, here…
Have a great trip back to Melbourne a city I have visited many times travelling from Dublin Ireland to meet up with my sister and family there. I'm always on the look out for Bill Bonner when he is in Dublin but sofar haven't bumped into him. Myself and my brother have read all of Bill's books and I said I wonder what I'd say if I stopped to have a chat with him or yourself. I said I'd thank him for showing what really goes on in the world of finance and politics. You have a great team at BPR and my brother described the Team as " The Four Wise Men "
Sweet Jesus. Milei himself? And up close like that. Amazing. Buenos Aires ay? Might have to come for a visit. Make sure you give Milei a call for a catch up while I'm there. See if he can't learn English along the way.. My Spanish isn't working out so well. You can sell how beneficial it would be to us all.
I think my wife worked with your sister on the airlines and shared a post of yours during the funny business. Glad she did. You and your words have proven valuable.
There is something building I think. I feel it where I am. Trying to play my part. There are a few of us coming together and I think we can make a change here. Keep it up. One person at a time we will get there.. Soon the momentum will be behind the truth once people see that we can unlock an amazing future together for us all.
