I’m on a world cruise and have been consulting Wikipedia to learn something about each of the countries we visit. I’ve noticed that almost every citation includes a comment about how climate change will affect each country in the future, invariably in a negative manner. It amazes me that somehow we seem to know the future with such clarity! However, in real time, it appears that life everywhere is humming along quite nicely and apparently everyone is oblivious to the “fact” that the sky is falling.
Joel, this is your best article yet! I love the newspaper headlines. The fact however is that to sign up with say the NYTimes is easy and it had a good reputation which it has now destroyed. I certainly wouldn't pay for anything from those meaning to damage my society to steal from me or ignore the law of a Republic, my Republic. These clowns must be laughed at every possible opportunity. They are sellouts to the machine. Its a game they play well but society has caught on.
I was going to make a comment about subscribing, but Brian Clavin put it so succinctly that I’ll just say DITTO. Joel…take my money. You’ve definitely earned it. And if you’d like to inject some of that awesome Sunday Sesh “snark” into this publication, I’m all for it!
Joel, I'm surprised that you blame the medium rather than the writer for disinformation.
By any name, whether Substack or Seattle Times, it's not the medium; it's the originator -- the author, the researcher, the writer, or by whatever name the text creator is called -- who is responsible for the accuracy of what was published for public consumption.
A lazy Substack writer has no editor to scrub the writer's copy. Consequently, when misinformation is conveyed by the established press, it's more grievous but no less odious than when a solo Substack author also peddles truth sounding palaver
Yes, wise words, Jimm. Of course individual writers - and even their particular opinions on individual subjects - ought to be taken one by one… I mean to note only that “in general” there is a structural corruption present in the MSM, which is a larger, more centralized beast and, therefore, more susceptible to capture. Conversely, and again as a general trend, a more decentralized platform is resistant to that structural corruption… especially one that promotes free speech and advocates a marketplace of ideas. But yes, there are good and bad individuals everywhere and in all walks of life. Point taken. Cheers!
What a terrific overview Joel. I haven't paid much attention to the MSM (aka Oligarch media) for near a decade. I'm very thankful for Substack and its many independent writers-- I follow many that you mention. There is no reason for anybody not to have the truth at their finger tips if they choose.
Sub stack is fantastic and I hope it remains so Recently I heard Doomberg say that “they” will be coming after substack soon too. I hope they can resist.
Do I think those parakeet papers published prudent retractions of their phony pablum? In a word: No. Why? Because they have a rotten record when it comes to reporting the truth. About anything.
TA DAAA! Grand slamerooni in the bottom of the ninth Joel! The visitors will find the stadium easy to leave bc the home teamers eyes will be cryin soooooo much!
It doesn't take a high IQ to recognize that MSM's "journalists" are fiction writers who should be required to join SAG. It takes little to realize that Big Brother has plans for 50,000,000 undocumented, mostly single-man intruders who can't speak English to overtake 35mm Substack subscribers. My thought is that most Substact people are readers without a plan. The 50MM intruders didn't get here by accident! So, who will take over as we sit back and watch our country implode?
Re: Dummy News, how insightful! Regarding the four headlines cited which deride independent research and critical thinking, what are the chances that All Four were published on 20 Dec 2023 +/- about one day?
OK Joel and Wifey.
You Win.
I am caving in.
I kept hoping that you would fail in your attempts to lure me in as a Paying Subscriber.
But every week, you turn the screw.
You keep putting out missives of epic proportions and near carnal knowledge.
So, I give up.
I am going to become a paid subscriber today.
You Wide, despite a noble and valiant fight on my part to remain on the freebie list.
😉
Keep Going and Keep the Torch Lit.
Respect.
Brian
Welcome aboard!
Thank god for all you Substack authors! You are the new targets for “the authorities “ .
Shame the Supreme Court can’t find the first amendment or understand the nuances of coercion.
Laughed out loud when I saw the headline post.
Need all the lolz we can get these days…

Thanks for the update, Kenny. I’m enjoying your roaming commentary from the high seas. Bon voyage!
Ahh, yes sir! The Truth is hard to come by today.
Or, has it always been that way?
Probably the latter is more true.
Either way, thank you for your eloquent insight into our existence.
And our wealth protection!

Haha, thank you kindly. Look out for the al new Sunday Sesh, coming soon to Notes... Cheers!
But . . . Nazis!
Lolz…
Another vacuous attempt (that one by The Atlantic) to convince the research-averse about the perils of the free market of ideas.

Going on 40 years news-free.
I don't read, listen, watch, or discuss it.
One of the 3 best decisions of my entire life.

Don't sit back.
Shrug. Move. Rely on self, community, family, and the Almighty.

Love all. Trust a few.
Always paddle your own canoe.
