First and most important, I see in that park that you have jacarandas in BA. I love jacarandas. But I had BA placed at a lower latitude than where you are, which is more like San Diego here in the northern latitudes. Must be lovely - I loved San Diego (then, maybe less now). I'm still jealous of you, btw.

Anyway, you still get a number of nay-sayers up here, all prophesying "doom for Argentina with its foolish 'experiment' in budget cutting" - among whom your own special darling, Paul Krugman, everyone's favorite moron economist. Glad to see Milei up here talking to Trump, Musk and the whole wild gang. They're all very serious, but so are the forces of Mordor.

"Let’s hope the man with the motosierra can export his ideas of limited government to Musk, Ramaswamy and the rest of Team DOGE while he’s in town." Yes, please!!

"(More on this in future Notes…)" Looking forward to this. Bring it on!!

Glad to see that when a good politician keeps his promises, the results can be amazing! The good people of Argentina have waited a century for this to happen for them.

Very nice scan of the park. Interesting to see the lovely trees in bloom, everything clean and well kept in the background, all the people walking, few of them overweight, and very little traffic.

It's hard to argue with spending less and paying one's bills. Except in government where higher debt is deemed the solution for inflation reduction.

Looks like such a lovely place to live! I love the lanterns and the artistic buildings, and your much smoother panning technique! Did you see that Kamala spent 2.6 million on private flights during her campaign? And she is really concerned about the environment? Trump has left over $ and even has offered to help her according to Truth Social.

He better not! That would tick a lot of people off, including me.

Just heard on the news that these cop people want to fine all the "law " breakers for "destroying the planet" I think it is about a trillion dollars that they want. Looks Like You and I are on the hook for a big payment. In their dreams. Liberty and Freedom.

Joel, recently spent a few weeks in Arg for the first time; 1.5 weeks in BA and about 2 weeks in Patagonia.

First thing I noticed is there are ALMOST ZERO OBESE PEOPLE .... !! (I'm Australian, & I live in Mexico City, both of which are nearly as fat as the USA).

What's your theory on this, I was assuming red meat and mate consumption, with what seems like a healthy dose of cigarettes from some of the younger women... 🤔

Reckon it’s the fresh produce…old school farm to table. I’ve got half a dozen good fresh fruit and veg places within a five minute walk from my apartment, plus quality independent butchers, fishmongers, speciality food stores, etc.

DF is great…but heavy. We spent a couple of years in Roma Norte/La Condesa. Sure miss that place!

Will DOGE be another "Blue Ribbon" outside government panel? Easily dismissed by the politico class. By the way, DOGE is headed by two people. Perhaps, they can start with DOGE.

DOGE is headed by two people…who are working without taxpayer-funded pay. Doubly efficient!

There may be a surplus and very low inflation, but what happens when 7 of 10 children are food insecure and 53% of the population is at poverty level? How does the general population manage there? What is the unemployment rate?

I completely agree that the U.S. needs an overhaul as the deficit is in record territory, but we have low inflation, a humming economy, and strong workforce. The recovery from COVID has been remarkable. Prices for everyday goods remain high because of record profits, not so much supply chain issues.

There was no covid, it was all a scam, an easily provable one; even many dumbass (but honest) allopathic medical doctors figured it out. That the covid scam kept Trump from being re-elected was just a bonus for Fraudci and his ilk. Oh, and I don't know if you've heard, but most businesses are not doing that great. It's ok, though, the military-industrial-complex is doing quite well.

I don’t know much about Argentina and want to know how the government has responded to serious issues of poverty. I do know that food insecurity in children leads to poor learning outcomes and reduced job opportunities. The benefit of Medicaid and free school meals are proven. Is this something that will be chopped here to balance the budget? I’m hoping to read more on this issue from the author.

Okay then, I believe I’m following the wrong Substack. I came on here because I truly want to know what kind of successes and failures have been seen and felt in Argentina, since our country appears to be heading for similar policies that have been implemented there. Not here to argue about Covid. Although what did all those millions die of? Actually please don’t answer. I won’t be listening.
