Careful mate, we don't know when an earthquake may strike. I had never heard of this one. The tsunami was felt in Brazil!

"In essence, the 1755 Lisbon earthquake was a pivotal event in Portuguese history, reshaping the capital city, influencing political dynamics, and sparking intellectual discourse. While the direct impact on the empire's global standing was not immediate, the earthquake's consequences laid the groundwork for a period of significant change and eventual decline."

It must have been terrible, first the quake, then the devastating fires and if that wasn't enough, the tsunami finished it off! No wonder they were questioning God haha.

Until this missive, i was completely unaware of the events of 1755.

Thank You for the education, despite the veil of tears that wraps and entombs the events.

A brief description of the Lisbon earthquake is in The Great Controversy; you can read it here: https://archive.org/details/in.ernet.dli.2015.262440/page/n301/mode/2up What the author does not mention is why the earthquake happened. It was because of wickedness. People think that God punishes wickedness, and in a sense He does. But, people bring the consequences of wickedness upon themselves, till even nature will revolt against them. If you have further interest, this is an excellent book on the subject: https://fatheroflove.info/downloads/books/Agape.pdf.

The history of mankind is inescapably tainted by religion mankind creating his gods in his own image. Peace and prosperity god is thanked, death and chaos take hold man wonders how god was angered. The god created in man's own image requires more prayer, a sacrifice, man needs more faith or possibly just another god.

The answer my friend is not blowing in the wind, it can be found in the Torah. However, religions especially Christianity have with great purpose have done their best to make the message impossible to comprehend and apply. We reach for the tomes of great religious or secular philosophers, and ignore the wisdom words of the Creator.

Torah was given so that man would have no need of religion, no need for Popes, Kings, or Clergy. No European king has ever been authorized by God to rule over mankind. The world would be a very different place.

Unbeknownst to all Christians their church was established by Rome. Protestantism is the bastard stepchild of Universal Romanism. Jews are hated within this religion because while claiming Abraham's God as its God, Torah and the Jews know this is an absurd claim. God teaches in the literal form; "Do not add or subtract from my instructions". Simply put do not add a NT, Quran, Talmud, or Book of Mormon.

2.5 billion people actually believe God is reliable, while God changed His mind transferring His eternal promises from descendants of Abraham to the Church in Rome. Then authorized emperors (Pope's} to murder, torture and plunder most of the known world by the sword.

After the devastation in Lisbon, one entity rose from the ashes as it always does. I'm sure in the end the Jews were probably blamed.

There are 3 religions claiming the God of Abraham, and only one people teaching their children how to read and understand the only language spoken by his God.

The language of Academia and science are Greek and Latin very few know Hebrew, the very reason man walks in darkness. The Tanakh can only be understood from the Hebrew, the very reason the language is ignored.

What You say has some merit. New Testament was originally in Hebrew and then re written into the many languages of today. Usually losing much of the meaning of the original. May be wrong about the New Testament being Hebrew, May have been in Greek. Faith is a word much maligned today. The Old Testament is There for Our edification.

Do you have proof that the translated Bible has 'lost much of the meaning of the original'? I didn't think so. You may have well have said that you need to be a hebrew speaking jew to understand the Bible, or to be saved. The Israelites of old never really understood the gospel, which is why they were evicted from God's land at least twice. Some prophets understood, but they were usually murdered for their effort. See The Two Covenants, on this page: https://discourseonagape.org/booklets.

Oh, and take Dennis's blatherings with a huge grain of salt. As if David, a murderer and adulterer (he was forgiven) could be the Messiah, but Jesus, the Son of God and the son of man, who fulfilled all the Bible prophecies about the Messiah (many given by David), could not. It would be hilarious if it were not so sad.

2/3rds of the NT consist of one side of Paul's letters written in very poor Greek. We only have Paul's answers to questions nothing from those challenging or asking. Taking into consideration everything spoken by Paul, in most of the time he contradicts himself, while spending a great deal of energy scolding the hand picked disciples of Jesus. The greater issue, the Hebrew bible is vast, eclipsing the NT in volume and quantity of authors. The argument of the Christian church can be summed up; Believe in Jesus or you'll end up in hell, coupled with the claim 360 prophecies about the coming of Jesus exist within the Tanakh.

Ask your pastor or priest for a single Hebrew citation pointing to Jesus in the Tanakh, he'll change the subject, there's not a single one and every Christian scholar knows this to be true.

Christians in our age have their entire social life wrapped up in the particular flavor of the faith. Never fact checking their church or pastor in fear of being cast out.

Christians scratch their head and for the life of them cannot figure out why Jews reject the notion of Jesus as a messiah and God. Read the Hebrew bible compare your favorite Christian OT Jesus verse, citation from Paul or the 4 gospels pointing to Jesus. Do this in context of the entire thought the author is conveying. Do this and you quickly figure out every mention of an anointed (messiah from the Greek) is speaking about king David (Dowd).

I don't want to make this TLTR... Description of Jesus from NT he was a carpenter, born in Bethlehem, rode a donkey into Jerusalem, has been equated with the trade of sheepherding and called a king.

Description of Dowd/David, was born in Bethlehem, rode a donkey into Jerusalem, was both a shepherd, king, and was anointed with oil 3 times by a priest at the direction of YHWH. Said of Dowd by God in Psalm 89, he is God's chosen, first born son, will return bodily, to save Israel from its enemies, bring universals peace, and sit on the throne of David forever. YHWH ends the Psalm stating if all revealed does not come to pass He is a liar.

For me, under the circumstances I'm going with what is revealed in Tanakh.

Well Dennis, I do not belong to any church, Yours or Christian. I live by the direction of the Holy Spirit. Yes the old testament is mostly written by words that God has sent via prophets and inspired ones such as King David Of Israel. To say that You live by the Tanakh is good if that is all You want to see and live by. In this Old Testament Our heavenly Father has said that I will , I am paraphrasing here , Change this world and I will write My laws in the hearts of Man. This has started already. At least from My perspective. , as I do not know for sure, being a man that I am.

I don't have a church or a religion. YHWH or with English vowels added YaHWah has great distain towards religion. He spend a great deal of time freeing His children from religion.

I don't want to put you off but how have you come to believe the holy spirit guides your actions and outcomes? I only put to you this question because there's no mention of God's spirit guiding anyone He does not know on a personal level. Tanakh God's instruction manual and guide concerning how one should live, summed up; Rely on Me thought my instructions for life, you will prosper in this world and the next. Stray from Torah and into the systems of mankind, your crops will fail, the world will hate you, and your enemies will prevail in time of war. Return and be reconciled, there is no mention of an intermediary, or living under the spirit.

The majority of agnostics I have come across including all of my close friends claim to be spiritual. They tend to worship the creation instead of listening to the Creator. I'm ok with this, all men are granted a free will choice. Come to know and fall in love with God, or ignore Him for something we deem better. The basic principle of free will precludes being required to love God or burn in hell. One of my initial reasons for rejecting all religions. Equivalent to approaching a human relationship under this premise; Love me or I will torture you for all eternity! Oh, if that's the only choice I love you. Makes no sense but is the basis of the world's largest religion.

How did King David get the instructions of How the Temple In Jerusalem was to be built ?

Assuming the question is not rhetorical, YHWH gave to Dowd the instructions to how the entire complex to the smallest detail was to be constructed and facilitated. Dowd gave the same to his son Solomon.

The event was recorded in 1 Chronicles 28.
