I have a friend who went and got his brains vacuumed out at UBC where he became a dyed-in-the-wool communist. After patiently explaining to Mr. Brainwashed that the only place communism can flourish is right smack dab in the middle of a capitalistic society where others peoples money can be redistributed to all the worthless, entitled, “educated”, culls. We had that conversation when I was 16 years old. With all that’s happened over the years in regards to socialism/communism you’d think he’d have changed his mind. Nope, he’s still just as adamant, if not more so, than he ever was. I’m afraid my faith in humanity is at an all time low, and yet, I remain optimistic. Maybe I’m the crazy one.

I read a few books about Batista and the Mafia. Oligarchs can be vindictive and, in the 1950’s, things were bad for the have nots.
The have-nots have no clue how to rise up to care for themselves. All of history tells us of the slaves who support the elites, (oligarchs, priests, teachers, you name it). It seems to be the way of the world.
I spent a couple of weeks in Cuba in 2002. From Havana to Camaguey(central) to St Lucia on the coast to Santiago De Cuba(south) and back to Havana. The infrastructure is in shambles, the cars are ancient, the housing is falling apart, sidewalks and roads in disrepair, water unsafe to drink and shuts off constantly, yards over run with litter, the people are demoralized, many young girls selling themselves for a twenty dollars and I could go on. Other than that its a great place.

The problem is: Big Pharma, Military/Industrial Complex," "Big Ag," "Big Tech," AIPAC, and on and on. In other, words, gigantic monopolies and special interest groups that have risen to the top and left everyone else pretty much in the dust. There is no classical "competitive marketplace."

I spent some time in Cuba in the 90's. I loved the people, the music, the old cars, and the weather. Everything else sucked. Went for a burger in one of the fancy hotel restaurants near the Malecon and was told there were no buns because "the baker had no flour today". The roads were pitiful, especially in the small town where we stayed, and I remember wondering why, in a police state with a planned economy, they couldn't even manage to get the rubble removed from the damaged roadways. Pretty basic, I'd have thought. Then there there were the local cops showing up at our residence every day demanding money from the landlord '"you have guests, you have money, we want half". The perfect illustration of "taxation is theft". Scary. Nobody in full command of their rational faculties, with even a rudimentary knowledge of history, can possibly believe communism works in any social system larger than a farm commune. It doesn't, as has been proven time and again. And not because "it's never been tried properly". It doesn't work because it flies in the face of human nature. For good or ill we are a competitive species and it is in our genes to strive for more than we have. But in exchange we expect to keep what we earn and not share it with others too lazy to look after themselves. The other major problem is that the "gimme what you got or else" philosophy tends to attract the lost and the logic-impaired, and especially the sociopaths who are all too happy to prey on them and rob them blind. Lenin, Stalin, Trostky, Dzerzhinsky, Khrushchev, Brezhnev, Mao,- the list of bloodsucking psychos goes on and on. When the world falls apart these are the guys most likely to step up and take over, and there will always be millions who will let them.
To witness how badly brains can be addled and also to get a good laugh, go see the newly released film, “Am I Racist?”, a cinematic gem by Matt Walsh. The DEI mantra, an outcropping of communism, is being echoed throughout corporate America. Will the tide turn back toward sanity? We can only hope.

Visited Cuba 3 times over about 7yrs nothing changed apart from the water out of the tap dripped slower
