I would love to see Argentina now for myself...but at 77 years old I don't like traveling alone and all my friends and relatives don't like traveling--period! I've been a libertarian since @ the age of 20 and helped get the LP started here in Maine and get permanently on the ballot via Ed Clark who was running for election for president on the LP ticket. The southern/coastal part of my state is full of left wing democrats who don't like Biden much any more, but definitely are not libertarians. I wouldn't mind making a move to a freer location, but not by myself--which is what would happen. But I follow what Javier Millei is doing and am thrilled that he was elected!! I pray that the people of the world re-awaken to the opportunities that only a free capitalist country can foster. This world would become a far more glorious place if more freedom set loose the creativity of individuals. It's what our creator wants for us, I believe.

Move across the way to New Hampshire? Heard there might be some liberty minded people strewn about.

Yes. Good old NH. Unfortunately my sister just moved from there after 40 years to be my neighbor...I should have moved to NH before she moved to Maine. There are some liberty-minded people there; but the cultural offerings aren't great and they're wonderful here in the Portland area.

Sometimes family relationships are more important anyway. Same for me as my family has grown here in the Midwest after leaving the east coast many years ago. Loved Maine and the people there. All the best.

Born and raised in Colorado’s 10 square miles surrounded by reality, my parents moved to the eastern edge of the town on an acre and built a house where I grew up. After marrying we moved outside of town but still in Boulder County to a farm with horses, chickens, barn cats, and Boerboels. I love CO. But Boulder’s politics are...wow. Retiring to Sedona, AZ soon, but should the USA continue into Dante’s Hades, we may go elsewhere - Argentina looks heavenly!

I was born in Texas, grew up in New Mexico, and in my younger years, lived in both Thailand and Italy. Thirteen years ago I retired and moved to Cuenca, Ecuador, about 8400 feet (2600 m) of elevation, where the weather is pleasant year-round. I observe the doings from various places around the world, but I have no plans to move, either back to the US or to any other country. It helps that our two sons also live here with their families, where we are well-integrated into the local culture.

Having said that, I know that plans and situations can change, but now that we are comfortable in Spanish and still fluent in English, we have a lot of options.

I am from the Netherlands also called Holland, thus I am a Dutchman , and have been living here in Brasil for the last 25 years and I love it, together with my charming and clever wife. After living and working in most European countries and speaking all the various languages I decided to take the step and move to Brazil , the country I always dreamed about because of the language, the music and the mistery which I

saw on these nice colored pictures and its has been the best decision of my life. Ever since I arrived in S.Paulo where I started my new life I found that this country has the space and the potential to make your own living, as long as you want to see the potentials which are plentiful. Brazil is called the land of the future, which is true

and will always be, with its size and climate, the spirit of the young people and the

location away from Europe and the US it can quietly grow and develop. The city of

Rio de Janeiro is one of the nicest places to live and enjoy life complete with the

many facilities, nice people and vast country life nearby. Viva Brazil.

I was born in Hungary, left the country after the 56 revolution. Came to the USA, was a fantastic country but lately, has become corrupted, but hey that is my personal belief. Here the people keep putting back the dame politicians who screw them daily. Have been to Argentina and BA a number of times, the Theatro Colon, went to Eva Perone's grave etc. Beautiful parks, great restaurants, and BA reminds me of Budapest before the war, a beautiful cily and a mellow, gracious place to live and to have a wonderful life which is not possible in the USA.

Interesting comparison with Budapest. We used to summer in the city, right on Andrássy Avenue, near the opera. The cafes and bars around there are amazing, and the river dining along the Danube hard to beat. But you're right, that Old World charm is terrific. Thanks for reading!

Hi Joel, I was born in Wales and have “lived” since then in Hong Kong, New Zealand and Australia. I define lived as somewhere I chose to live for 5 years or more. Hong Kong was driven by work and the last two driven by lifestyle for the family and myself. I am settled for good now in Australia - best place of all of them!

My wife and I have lived in Ecuador over 15 years. We met here. She's from the U.S. and I'm from Canada. I'm now considering the possibility of moving to Argentina (wine country probably). If Milei pulls off what he wants to do, Argentina is going to undergo a renaissance. If that happens, I want to be there to see it. We'll see if Milei lives long enough to make it happen <sigh>.

OK, I am from Perth, Western Australia. I've been very lucky to be an exploration geologist and to have been to a lot of countries. The Buenos Aires that you describe is wonderful.

I have been looking at it on Google Earth. I have a question, a problem, and a niggle.

The question is, how far from the city centre are the live theatre venues and the bookstores spread in any number?

The problem is that, away from the leafy central area, the seem to be very few parks; and an almost total lack of playing fields for the apparently football-mad kids.

The niggle - you have to go an awful long way to find a decent white beach, with clear water, and surf!

Cheers

We actually live near the 'pulmones' of the city - which are large stretches of parks in both directions. You could walk them for hours! Likewise the theaters and bookstores are all in walking distance... or a 10 min cheap cab ride. The beach is a little harder - the closest nice beach is Punta del este in Uruguay... but even better is a 2 hour flight to Brazil and then you have some pretty spectular beaches!

Yeah, as CW mentions below, BA is not the place for you if good surf and a decent white beach are high on the list... but there are cheap, direct flights from here to Brazil, which has you covered on that front. I often say one of my favorite things about BA is Rio de Janeiro...

Hi Joel,

I am not only tempted but actively seeking somewhere I can keep my head down during the upcoming troubled times I believe are ahead of us. As someone who now holds multiple citizenships and residencies I am spoiled for choice.

I have lived in Eastern Europe, Germany, the UK, Thailand and I am currently in New Zealand. Just across the ditch from your home.

The problem is, where do you go that is most unlikely to get embroiled in global conflicts.

Ah. The Donald put it so succinctly.

Some sh*t hole country.

I am loving your work.

Mike

PS: Perhaps you can convince Dan Denning to create a global bolthole project / index?

I've been trying to get Dan to create a global bolthole project. Since he's going to be in Oz soon, perhaps he can start there. Then he can take Qantas to Santiago, Chile, then go to BA, then he can come here to Ecuador.

My father was a traveling salesman after WW2. He loved to drive and one day stumbled upon fellow who owned a secluded property in the mountains at the end of a private road. It could have been on the surface of the moon, no one within miles, a water fall, swimming hole and fishing. The owner was all alone and we'd bring him stuff and my father would converse for hours with this fellow. Pulling away from the property a week later he said; "Son let's keep this place a secret from the rest of the world". Joel, It might be wise for you to do the same, you don't really want a lot of Americans piling in, or the Chinese.

In my 20's cheap travel was my aim, every October it was off to some warm destination. Haiti before the US government helped them into ruin. Martinique before the volcano swallowed up my side of paradises. Jamaica before a single 'all inclusive' was built. Cancun when there was no American zone, mostly travelled alone with just a carry on.

Traveling in and out of America, changed my perspective on Americans in general and in what we have come to embrace as truth from our media outlets.

My fathers secret place is now a subdivision the falls are gone as is the pond, and the creek is running under street diverted into a pipe.

Good advice. Funny, too, how those cheap and cheerful days of budget accommodation and travel "disasters" often end up becoming the best memories. Cheers!
